Our Wales waterfall photography workshop will take place in January 2025 with Bill Ward. Nestled on the southern edge of the Brecon Beacons, and a short walk from the village of Pontneddfechan, lies Wales’ inimitable Waterfall Country. The area is home to one of the highest concentration of waterfalls in the UK: around a dozen high power falls, all within a few square kilometres of each other.
Our day will centre around arguably the jewel of them all, Sgwd Gwladys. Carving out a huge bowl in the rock, Sgwd Gwladys summons up a combination of grace and power that is truly beguiling. As the river Pyrddin bounces its way through the ancient trees and woodland that surround it, there are both wide vistas, and intimate compositions to be found in abundance, and with the winter rains, the sheer power of the falls can be a genuinely impressive sight and sound to behold.

Shooting Water in Wales - Brecon Beacons Photography Workshop
Your tutor for this workshop is Bill Ward, who is a specialist water shooter, and well versed in using innovative compositions and reflections to help showcase mother nature’s finest work. Bill can help with using shutter speed to tell individual stories, and hunting out those hidden details and abstracts that may not seem immediately apparent at first sight.
Water is an amazing resource, a super substance: not only is it the only substance on our fragile planet that at normal temperatures exists in three separate states as a solid, liquid and gas, it’s also vital to life on earth, in all its various forms. It also happens to be something that we as humans tend to have a huge emotional connection with. On this workshop we’ll be having a good close up look at the wet stuff in all its glory, exploring our relationship with it, and deliberately putting it centre stage.
Bill also specialises in Creative Photography (Intentional Camera Movement/Multiple Exposures), and whilst this isn’t the main focus of this particular workshop, there will be plenty of opportunities to experiment with this genre for those who are interested.
This workshop is limited to just 6 participants. Bill will meet participants at 9.30am and the workshop will finish at 5pm.
