Our photography tour of Uzbekistan and the Great Silk Road will take place in September/October 2025 with Mehmet Ozbalci. Uzbekistan has always been a cultural and architectural centre in Central Asia. Sandwiched between Kazakhstan in the north and Turkmenistan and the Amu Darya river in the south, its walled desert cities and windswept fortresses were key stopping points on the fabled Silk Road - a network of trading routes which ran between China and Europe. Join Mehmet Ozbalci in Uzbekistan, the homeland of Tamerlane, for an unforgettable photographic experience.

Uzbekistan Photography Tour - The Great Silk Road
Our tour will combine the Silk Road heritage with desert landscapes and culture-packed cities. We will visit colourful markets filled with exotic spices and silks and great domed and elaborately tiled Madrasahs. Tashkent, the country's capital, displays Soviet-era architecture and hosts the renowned Chorsu Bazaar. The Kyzylkum Desert with its oasis towns and foreboding fortresses, and the magnificent mosques, ornate palaces and mausoleums of Samarkand, Khiva and Bukhara will all be a cultural and photographic feast for our group.

Uzbekistan was once an important centre for science, too. One of the most eminent scientists of ancient times - astronomer, mathematician and geographer Al-Khorezmi, was born in Uzbekistan. The term 'algorithm' was derived from his name, as he developed the concept of the algorithm in mathematics. Uzbekistan has become one of the most prosperous countries in Central Asia since gaining independence in 1991. Ethnic and religious groups live together harmoniously and peacefully.

Photographic opportunities will abound during our tour - from the blue hour shots of the famous Registan Square to the zigzagging ancient city walls of Khiva at sunset, from pilgrims of Zhahi Zinda to colourful markets and amazing ancient architecture.

Along our route, while we photograph local artisans and wander narrow streets, we will receive a warm welcome from the Uzbek people, who will make you feel at home as we adventure across this beautiful country.

Book both of our Silk Road tours - Kazakhstan / Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan - and receive a £500 discount. Discount will be applied to balance payment.
