Responsible Travel
Take Only Photographs, Leave Only Footprints
Here at Light and Land, we recognise our obligation to operate our photography tours in a responsible and sustainable way. We view this not only as an environmental issue but as an economic and social one as well. We are committed to giving back to this world we share with so many others and take our responsibility in doing so very seriously.
Beginning in October 2024, we are delighted to announce our partnership with the award-winning environmental company Trees4Travel. Trees are one of the most powerful absorbers of carbon emissions – by growing trees in developing countries as we travel, we can help to restore ecosystems, encourage biodiversity and support local communities. Trees4Travel takes a holistic approach to sustainability and therefore also connects each tree to a United Nations renewable energy project, essentially doubling their promise.
Take a look at where we are growing trees https://my.trees4travel.com/light-and-land/forest and you can join us by calculating and reducing your travel impact.
However, travelling sustainably is more than just about finding ways in which to reduce our travel emissions, there are many other factors to consider as well.
The following are the key points in our responsible travel philosophy:
- Small groups have less impact on local communities and environments.
- We respect the environment and leave no trace or footprint.
- We make and share photographs that highlight issues affecting the natural world.
- Where possible we believe in putting money directly into the communities we visit by using locally owned and run accommodation and eating locally produced food.
- We ensure that local staff receive a fair rate for their services.
- We are creating more workshops based in the UK to reduce the need for air travel.
The way we run our business and the impact this has is also important to us:
- Our small team all work from home, reducing our travel emissions.
- We are completely paper-free, choosing to run our business 100% digitally.
